FAQ

How does online physiotherapy work?

Online physiotherapy, also known as telerehabilitation, works as follows:

  1. Appointment booking: The patient books an appointment with a physiotherapist online or over the phone.
  2. Video call: At the scheduled time, the physiotherapist initiates a video call with the patient using Zoom or Whatsapp. During the call, the physiotherapist will assess the patient's condition, ask questions about their symptoms and medical history, and provide guidance on exercises and stretches to help manage the condition.
  3. Exercise program: Based on the assessment, the physiotherapist will recommend a tailored exercise program to help the patient manage their condition. This may include stretches, strength-building exercises, and other exercises designed to improve mobility, flexibility, and function.
  4. Follow-up: Depending on the patient's condition, the physiotherapist may recommend follow-up appointments to track progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

Online physiotherapy allows for real-time assessments, consultations, and exercises to be conducted remotely, while still providing individualised care and guidance from a licensed physiotherapist.

Is online physiotherapy effective?

Yes, online physiotherapy can be effective in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Studies have shown that online physiotherapy can be as effective as in-person physiotherapy in improving pain, function, and quality of life for patients with conditions such as lower back pain, neck pain, and knee osteoarthritis.

What is Active Therapy?

Active therapy in physiotherapy refers to exercises and activities that involve active participation from the patient. In other words, the patient is actively engaging in the movements or exercises prescribed by the physiotherapist, rather than passively receiving treatment from the therapist.

Active therapy can include a range of exercises, such as stretching, strengthening, balance and coordination training, and cardiovascular exercise. These exercises are designed to help the patient improve their mobility, strength, and function, and can be tailored to their specific needs and abilities.

The goal of active therapy is to empower patients to take an active role in their own recovery and to help them achieve their goals for rehabilitation. By engaging in active therapy, patients can often experience faster and more effective recovery than with passive treatment.

Why do senior citizens need to exercise daily?

Regular exercise is important for people of all ages, but it can be particularly beneficial for senior citizens. Here are some reasons why:

  1. Improve physical health: Regular exercise can help maintain or improve physical health in seniors by improving cardiovascular health, strengthening bones and muscles, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and osteoporosis.
  2. Maintain mobility and independence: Exercise can help seniors maintain their mobility, balance, and coordination, which can help reduce the risk of falls and maintain independence in daily activities.
  3. Improve cognitive function: Exercise has been shown to improve cognitive function and reduce the risk of dementia and cognitive decline in seniors.
  4. Improve mood and mental health: Exercise has been shown to improve mood and reduce the risk of depression and anxiety in seniors.
  5. Social engagement: Exercise can provide an opportunity for seniors to e interact with others, which can help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. Hence The Movement Squad conducts this program in small groups of 5.
